Northfield Promise Early Childhood Navigator

Summary

Bilingual individual who will work with families of young children to overcome obstacles that prevent kindergarten readiness. The Navigator will also help note places within local systems where children and families experience challenges and raise these up for system leaders.

Tasks

  • Work directly with a cohort of up to 25 Northfield families with young children ages 3-5
  • Assist with scholarship applications
  • Conduct home visits and individual meetings
  • Connect families with eligible community resources and social services, including assisting with required paperwork (as needed)
  • Connect families with early childhood screenings; follow-up with children who attend screenings and report they are not enrolled in preschool and/or early childhood programming
  • Provide follow-up connections after well-child checks
  • Assist with childcare applications, including for public funding
  • Identify barriers within local systems and regularly share this feedback with heads of these systems
  • Build effective relationships with individuals and organizations central to the work of the Navigator
  • Advocate for systems-level change
  • Evaluate and track data on the effectiveness of the Navigator pilot

Required qualities

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Previous experience in community organizing and/or individual family support
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Passion for equity and social justice
  • Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Healthy Community Initiative

Preferred qualities

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, early childhood education, or commensurate experience
  • Familiarity with Rice County organizations and resources

Depending on candidate’s interests and qualifications, flexibility exists for a part-time, full-time, or job-shared position. Staff members working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for health insurance.
