Internet Access Specialist – Full-time, Temporary (August-December 2020)

Summary

HCI is seeking up to two highly-motivated, organized individuals to support Faribault and Northfield Public Schools with efforts to ensure all students have access to internet and/or Wi-Fi during the 2020-21 school year. This is a temporary position (August-December 2020). Hours may vary, depending on the needs of families and the selected candidates’ preferences.

 

Tasks:

  • Identify families in need of internet/Wi-Fi
  • Work with families to explore internet service options and determine best fit for service needs
  • Support families to sign up for service or access a hotspot
  • Provide basic tech support for equipment set-up and maintenance (collaborating with school and internet partners when additional support is needed)
  • Develop and implement an outreach/communications plan to seek donations from the community to provide internet at low- or no-cost to qualifying families with school-age children
  • Serve as families’ main point-of-contact for internet connectivity needs on behalf of the districts
  • Assist families with accessing and understanding online school resources to stay up-to-date on their child’s academic progress and needs

 

Required qualities:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali preferred
  • Previous experience in education and/or family engagement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Experience working with diverse populations and those from different cultures or backgrounds
  • Ability to work select evening and weekend hours
  • Passion for equity and social justice
  • Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Healthy Community Initiative
  • Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment
