Communications Coordinator

Up to 20 hours per week

Now in its 28th year, the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) is a community-based organization whose mission is to cultivate a collaborative community that supports, values and empowers youth. HCI works with community partners to identify needs/opportunities, foster collaboration and support community-driven efforts that benefit local youth and families. By offering its assistance, HCI strives to build the capacity of the community to more effectively serve its young people.

HCI seeks a Communications Coordinator, who will report to the Executive Director and coordinate with Northfield Promise’s Communications Task Force, and program directors, as needed. 

Tasks (frequency as organizational and program priorities require): 

  • Lead the development of organization-wide and program-specific communications plans
  • Compile text and photos for key HCI publications, including the annual report and the HCI website
  • Write & distribute press releases 
  • Support production of short videos for various program areas
  • Support program areas to compile, format and distribute periodic digital newsletters and brief updates to community partners
  • Facilitate and coordinate media engagement 
  • Expand social media presence and messaging 
  • Develop talking points/elevator speeches for board and staff members
  • Gather vignettes and data in support of storytelling about needs and successes in various programs and overall 
  • Coordinate communications planning/activities with fundraising 

Required skills and past experience: 

  • Experience designing and implementing multi-faceted communications plans
  • Writing (experienced, polished marketing writer or copyeditor) 
  • Experience managing social media 
  • Marketing/communications/media relations 
  • Experience with nonprofit communications 
  • Graphic design basics
  • Sensitive/nuanced/balanced about community issues 
  • Productive and highly efficient
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative
  • Ability to work in both Northfield and Faribault, based on program needs
  • Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment
