AmeriCorps Outreach & Support

Now in its 29th year, the Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) is a community-based organization whose mission is to foster collaborative Rice County communities that empower youth, strengthen families, and build community. HCI works with community partners to identify needs/opportunities, foster collaboration and support community-driven efforts that benefit Faribault and Northfield youth and families. By offering its assistance, HCI strives to build the capacity of the community to more effectively serve its young people.

HCI seeks a part-time coordinator to help lead recruitment for local AmeriCorps positions and to support the local cohort of AmeriCorps members.

Tasks

  • Create and implement a comprehensive local outreach plan to recruit AmeriCorps members for Northfield, Faribault, and Dundas, Minnesota, positions. The plan must incorporate outreach including (but not limited) to the following: community leaders and organizations; religious leaders and their congregations; business leaders and organizations; education leaders and their instructional teams (in collaboration with other non-profits supported by ServeMinnesota)
  • Determine the most effective outreach strategies and tactics, and activate all outreach outlined in the local outreach plan
  • Heighten the value of service within the prioritized communities and stimulate aggressive recruitment efforts, meeting and exceeding established recruitment goals (in collaboration with other non-profits supported by ServeMinnesota)
  • Begin expanded outreach efforts by spring 2022 to Lonsdale, Minnesota
  • Provide support to the local Rice County AmeriCorps cohort, building a sense of team among those serving in the region
  • Secure affordable housing options, professional development opportunities, and other community supports for local AmeriCorps members
  • Assist with connecting outgoing AmeriCorps members with local employment and education opportunities
  • Complete necessary data tracking, as required by both HCI and ServeMinnesota
  • Other duties as assigned

Required qualities

  • Energetic, high-level strategic thinker
  • Previous experience in marketing, outreach, and/or volunteer recruitment
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Proven relationship-building skills and the ability to interact successfully with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders representing the diversity of community perspectives, cultures and interests
  • Excellent ability to solve problems and troubleshoot issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal relations skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Capable of producing high-quality work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Adept at reconciling differences of opinion, acknowledging and resolving conflict, and strengthening or building consensus
  • Proven verbal, written, and communication skills, including public speaking
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Comfort in using online data management systems
  • Must work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of HCI
  • Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment

Preferred qualities

  • Knowledge of Rice County and the surrounding communities
  • Familiarity with HCI and its programs
  • Previous experience serving in AmeriCorps or related national service program
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali
