Children’s Case Mangement & Community Support Services – Parents of children with special needs often need help to deal with the specific challenges inherent in serious emotional disturbances.  Children’s mental health case managers work with families to understand their needs and strengths, and develop a plan to address specific deficits in the child’s functioning based on diagnostic and funtional assessments.  Interventions could include crisis plan development and mediation management, referral for a chemical abuse/dependency assessment, employment support, individual therapy, and family therapy.

Community support programming such as skills training in social interactions, leisure activities, anger management, and independent living can also be provided.  Case managers help to manage schedules an appointments, and can provide transportation.  They work to develop a comprehensive treatment package for the child and his/her family by coordinating services with the agencies and providers involved in the implementation of the child’s treatment plan.  Services provided are dependent on the developmental level of the child, the family’s need, and availability of services.
