Parents Meeting Parents is a group for parents and caregivers of children with unique needs: * Receiving special education support * Mental health concerns * Physical disabilities * Attention deficits * Autism Spectrum disorders * and other learning challenges.
Providing networking, education and opportunities to gain support, including: * Monthly educational/networking meetings (Sept-May) * Natural support gained by meeting parents with similar experiences * Invite local school, resource and community partners to improve understanding and access to opportunities for children & families * Create individualized support/mentoring to families * Establish a meaningful link to the Special Education Advisory Council, and the Early Intervention Team, and Community Transition Interagency Team * Empower parents to advocate for their child(ren) and ask for support.
Childcare and Respite Care available during the Parent Meeting Parents times: Y-ChildWatch (on site at St. John’s and is free): * This is care for your child provided by YMCA staff * There is space to offer different activities for a wide range of ages and needs * Possible choices of activities: Movie (G-rated), homework help, art/crafts projects, board games and legos. * We can also provide a quiet room * Please call to register for either childcare or respite care by the Monday before each meeting, so appropriate staff will be available. * If you feel your child needs Skilled Care during our meeting time Respite Care is available free at Grandpa’s Farm in collaboration with Laura Baker Services – you must register by calling either Grandpa’s Farm, 507-645-6061 or Bonnie at Laura Baker Servcies, 507-645-8866. * Any questions about Y-ChildWatch or to register for Y-ChildWatch contact the Northfield Area YMCA at 507-645-0088 or their website . Capacity to Accommodate Clients who Speak Languages other than English: We will do our best to accommodate any parent looking for support. It would be important for an individual with needs to contact Lisa Malecha or Kim Rohr (645-1200) prior to the meeting, so arrangements can be made.
